Following the recent shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., allegedly carried out by an Afghan national, the Trump administration has announced new measures aimed at tightening entry and residency policies for certain foreign nationals. The administration stated that it will pause all asylum decisions, suspend visa issuance for Afghan nationals, regardless of whether they assisted in the U.S. war effort, and review green card applications from countries considered to be “of concern.”

This and other measures taken by the Trump administration have led to more than half of immigrants in the U.S. worrying that they or a family member may experience detainment or even deportation. The graphic below provides the numbers.
